Streamlining the Onboarding Process: A Conversation with Claire Martin, VP of Product

As VP of product, what factors did you take into consideration when designing the UX for a ‘typically’ complex solution?

“As our ShareRing Business Solution arm is focused towards a non-crypto native/web2 demographic, we were cautious to avoid developing features in this product that would be too foreign for the target user persona.

Understanding that most people need to be more familiar with the digital identity space, we designed the product to ensure the right amount of education is provided to users in the onboarding and user journey.

Striking a balance between giving users essential information to understand concepts and how the technology works vs an overwhelming amount of data which would potentially confuse the user.”

How does Identifi Me's reusable digital identity compare to other identity verification solutions in terms of meeting the needs of businesses?

“ShareRing's security is one of its greatest strengths, with the underlying infrastructure and architecture based on Shareledger, a proof-of-stake blockchain. Unlike other platforms, ShareRing stores a user's information on their phone in their vault instead of on the chain. This ensures that no identity data is stored on the chain, making it more secure.

To further enhance security, ShareRing utilises cryptography to hash and encrypt data, making it untraceable to personal information. Cryptographic keys are also used to enable users to choose who can access specific attributes of their personal information, placing data privacy at the forefront of the platform's design.

This approach significantly reduces the risk of data breaches from storing mass amounts of user data, allowing businesses to trust their users and prevent fraud, ultimately improving loyalty. ShareRing provides businesses with tools to make their processes more efficient and scalable while providing customers with the benefit of sharing only required information with businesses.

The reusable digital identity feature allows users to reuse their information multiple times through different mechanisms, and businesses can define how they want to access this information. With ShareRing, data privacy and security are paramount, making it the ideal platform for businesses looking to enhance their security and streamline their processes.”

Where do you think the industry will be in 5 years time?

“We are currently in the early stages of the digital identity space, but it's exciting to see how quickly this industry is evolving. In some jurisdictions, governments and policymakers are recognising the importance of securing our identity both online and offline to protect citizens, prevent fraud, and verify our identity. As users realise the value of consent and control over their personal information, the demand for digital identity solutions is increasing.

The potential applications for digital identity are endless, and research suggests that the number of digital identity solutions will double in the next five years.

As the industry continues to grow, we can expect to see even more innovative solutions that prioritise data privacy and security while providing users with greater control over their personal information.”

How will the end-users of digital identity solutions UX change in the next five years?

“As the digital identity space grows and evolves, we can expect to see even more innovative solutions that prioritize convenience, data privacy, and security, ultimately enhancing the overall user experience.”

Interoperability will be crucial for end-users convenience. Combining digital identity with biometrics can overcome hurdles in banking systems and provide benefits in areas such as travel and shared economies.”

Tell us a bit about your background in product and your thoughts on the digital identity industry.

“My transition from software engineering to product management was a natural evolution, driven by my passion for solving problems for people using technology.

As an engineer, I developed software solutions with a user-centric approach. In product management, I enjoy the research, analysis, and design aspects of developing software, including understanding user behaviour and designing effective products that add value and increase adoption and retention.

The digital identity industry is evolving, with more solutions emerging and increasing competition.

At ShareRing, we face the challenge of building a global product that caters to local needs.

However, the digital identity space offers a multitude of industry use cases - and I see the landscape developing solutions tailored to specific use-cases.”
